No wonder Planet Hollywood was asking an arm and a leg ($300 a couple
of months ago, as I recall) for a room on July 3 - it's the first day
of the WSOP main event.
And what's with the "here's our special, 30 days in advance,
non-refundable, the whole thing up front if you don't mind" rates
everybody seems to be listing these days (TI and Monte Carlo are
taking about $20/night off)? If I wanted to pay the whole thing at
once, I'd wait until the last minute and try Priceline. (Of course,
with my timing my trip so that WSOP starts in the middle of it, that
probably wouldn't be a smart move.)
While I'm on a rant here, who blabbed about MSS? The price pretty
much doubled in the last month or so; for the week I'm going, Golden
Nugget is only about $20 more for the entire stay.

MSS has a problem... they are too good at what they do. They have too
many guests between Vacations Hawaii, and the regular business they
do. It is getting harder and harder to get rooms there, unless you
can go through a host.
As for your situation, however, that's a no-brainer. As much as I
love MSS, for $20 more, go with the GN.

It is getting more difficult. I hardly ever get any postcard offers
from them anymore, or any kind of offer. Rumor is that since the
Stardust closed, Boyd is tightening up comps on their downtown properties.

The WSOP main event only has what? 15000 entries? That is a drop in the
bucket by Vegas standards. I think it maybe something else. Tom in Ct |

Man I hope that's not true. I was planning on doing a large portion
of my gaming there for this upcoming trip in hopes of generating room
offers in the future. Wishful thinking perhaps.
For what it's worth I got MSS for around $45 a night during the week
(except for Friday which came in around $110). |

Gotta recoup all those billions of dollars somehow. What better way
than to soak the customer?

And Vegas Club is still offering their North Tower Deluxe/1 King rooms
for the same price as the South Tower Standard/1 King rooms. During
the July 1-7 period, they're $31.49 Sun-Thur and $55.99 Fri-Sat. (Yes,
as long as this anomaly continues, I'll keep pimping these rooms the
way I did the $49 Aladdin rooms a couple years ago.)

It is true. I haven't seen a decrease in marketing offers, but room
availability has become an issue at times. I have heard tales that
they will walk you across the street to the California if they are
100% full, but this hasn't happened to me personally.
What I do is as soon as I know my Vegas dates, I call and book a room
through the regular reservations line. Then when I get my marketing
offer, I call marketing and convert my reservation. Works every time.

July 3 is Thursday night of Fourth of July weekend. With the Fourth on
a Friday it makes Vegas much more desirable than the last couple years
when it was on a Tuesday and a Wednesday and offerred some very
reasonable rates.
As far as the 30 day non refundable. It's just a way to garantee them
you won't cancel in the 30 dyas prior to arrival. Previously they let
you book the low rates and you could still cancel up to 24 or 48
hours. Just ignore them and book the lowest prices with Liberal cancel
policies. |

Aren't there a significant number of look-sie-loo's associated with the

When it was still held at Binion's (and was much smaller), we used to
cut through the poker room during the tournament, no problem. Yeah there
were spectators (standing room only), but for most of us, watching a
poker tournament is about as exciting as watching a golf tournament,
which is to say not exciting at all. I'm still not sure why cable
networks televise poker. |

Indeed, Walt. The Aladdin rate is what first enamored me with you. The
theme of that whole trip was "Stuff I learned from Walt." We saw Fab
Four with a twofer and finally found the people mover into the
Bellagio.
The love affair continues with the Vegas Club $31 rate I secured
because of your advice. You remain this newsgroup's most helpful
poster and the King of AVLV.
While I am reminiscing about things Walt, I got a card from the
Orleans the other day which mentions a "mandatory resort $5 fee per
night." I'd told you I had never been charged for this, so I am
assuming up till now it was voluntary.
But seriously, thanks Walt. |
