The Police and Elvis Costello will play MGM May 23rd. Tickets start at
$75, which I find to be surprisingly reasonable.

It's pretty rare when I actually like both acts on a double-bill, but
for this show I would be downright enthusiastic about both.

And for $75? Wow.

An excellent bill. I wish I could make it.
An excellent show that I have seen is Elvis' wife Diana Krall.

I've seen Elvis 5 or 6 times, most recently a little over a year ago. The
early era shows were some of the best stuff I'd ever seen from anyone. The
middle era shows were pretty darn good. Then as far as I was concernced, he
turned silly crooner and I didn't care much for it; that was the second to
last time I saw him. The last time he was back with the Attractions and it
was like seeing the early era all over again. Brilliant.

Hope he's in that mode; the Declan McManus mode puts me to sleep.

As for the Police, great songs and a weird guitar style never get old,
despite the hack celebrity that Sting has become.

I saw the Police this past June at the MGM and walked out it was
so bad. I paid $150 for my ticket (face value) and after having the
crowd in their hands to start by 20 minutes in 90% of the crowd was
comfortably seated. It looked like everyone was watching T.V. I felt
like Bugs Bunny doing the "excuse me, pardon me" routine to get out of
my row so I could leave. As I approached the exit to the casino there
were about 7 other people leaving, and when told we would need to be
stamped if we wanted to get back in we said "no thanks".
They played the old standards but slowed down the tempo in a sort
of jazz feel. Normally I wouldn't have minded but they haven't played
together in about 25yrs. so rearranging the songs doesn't seem to
smart, but it's a money grab so...
