Hi all,
We will travel to Las Vegas in april. We rent a car, but we want to know if
somebody can tell us what th price for a gallon is in the US, especially
near Las Vegas.
If we know it, we can calculate the amount of money we will probably spent
on our trip.
We will travel from LAS to SFO by car.
Regards,
Koen

From the Automobile Association of America (AAA):

This has the prices by state.

Prices will vary a lot depending on where you buy your gas. On the
Interstate freeways, gas is more expensive when you are far from a town.
California gas will be more expensive, generally, than Nevada.

Why? It would be cheaper to fly than drive. There is not much to see or do
inbetween Las Vegas and San Francisco, unless you are planning on staying a
few days in Reno, Tahoe, or Yosemite. Unless you like driving through
endless miles of desert and farmland, that is.

OK, so it's the same as in The Netherlands

Yes, flying is cheaper, but we want to see Death Valley, Yosemite, etc etc.
And because we are from the Netherlands, the dessert looks really nice to us
All the space..... WOW! |

You should rent the car only when you are ready to leave Las Vegas, as there
won't be much need for it there. The public transportation is good, there
is the free monorail, and taxis are plentiful.

April is a good time to hit the desert, and a wonderful time to hit
Yosemite. Spend a least one whole day at Yosemite if you can. Don't worry,
there is nothing to see from the western side of Yosemite to SF unless you
are a farmer or a biologist, so you won't need any time there.

We did. We are sleeping in the Stratosphere, so we can easily travel by
monorail to the Strip. The first week I'm working at the NAB (in the LV
Convention Centre) and after the convention, we will stay 2 days in LV and
then travel to the Grand Canyon and after the weekend we will go back via LV
and then Death Valley, Yosemite and then SFO.

The line that goes from the MGM to the Sahara (nearly the whole Strip) is,
but there are other, shorter lines that are free. Even at $5, it is still
far cheaper than a taxi.

LOL, maybe *maybe* for one person. But good luck having it drop you off
anywhere NEAR where you want to go! |

Koen,
Gas is currently about $2.60 US gallon. Sounds like you can afford it. =)
I've made the drive from Vegas to Yosemite (one of my favorite places on
Earth) many times. One word of caution here. The road from the east side
of the Sierra Mountains over to Yosemite is NEVER open during the winter.
There is way too much snow. Too, a late spring snow (which can occur in
April) will close the road. Check road conditions before leaving Vegas.
Have a very good trip.

Hi DH,
Thanks for your advise! We already looked at the roadconditions and until
now the road is closed.
Do you maybe have a good link to a website with the road conditions of the
CA-120?
And maybe you also have a nice idea about staying in Death Valley for a
night and which hotel you can advise?
Thansk!
