Hi I am heading out to Vegas in early April for the first time and I
am really looking forward to going to a good steakhouse when I am out
there. I am thinking something in the middle of the road as far as
price- like $100 per person for a whole meal. I was checking out
Binion's Ranch and they seem to have good reviews- SW steakhouse in
Wynn's has great reviews but I think that might be a bit to fancy for
me- I don't think I even own any clothes good enough for that place. I
have been really enjoying reading all the posts and reviews out there
from you guys- keep up the great work..

2 years ago I had lunch at DelMonico's and the bill came to $80. I had
the Cajun B-B-Q shrimp for an appetizer and the filet mignon w/ country
smahed potatoes for the entree, double chocolate cake finished it off.
I had iced tea to drink & coffee with desert.
My outfit consisted of khaki's and a golf shirt with loafers. |

Matt, I've said it before and I'll say it again... hands down THE best
steak in all of Las Vegas is at Delmonico in the Venetian. The Bone
In Rib Steak is THE best steak in all of Las Vegas. Meal came out to
$100 with appetizer, steak, potato, glass of wine, tax and tip.
You cannot go wrong.

Delmonico at Venetian is the best steakhouse in the WORLD. Get the
bone-in-ribeye nd you will be in heaven, and the prices, though high, fit
into your parameters. You won't be sorry, unless you choose somewhere else.

Go with the recommendation for Delmonico, and just for fun, also try
the $6.95 steak special at Ellis Island (Koval Ave near Flamingo, about
a half-mile east of Bally's). The special includes green beans; soup
or salad; choice of potato; choice of in-house microbrew or root beer.
Compare and contrast the two meals in your trip report.

OP a "good" steakhouse choice might be Billy Bobs at Sams Town on
Boulder highway. The steaks are big, flavorful and reasonable in
price. Service was also quite good. Try it if you are renting a car
and want to see another side of Vegas.

There are so many great steakhouses in this town but I cannot argue against
Demonico.
Some others however in my opinion (actual places where I have ate)
The Steakhouse-Circus/Circus (The best in my opinion in price to quality)
Smith &Wollensky (Almost a tie with Alan Albert)
Alan Albert (A little more than S & W)
Billybobs-Sam Town (Extremely underrated)
Envy-Renaissance Hotel
Charlie Palmer-Four Seasons
All the above are superb and will not disappoint.
Stay away from Ruth Chris (overpriced and over rated)
I am hearing great raves about Hank's at Green Valley Ranch.
Buy a nice pair of slacks and a comfortable sportshirt. It will be worth
it.

I've been to Delmonicos a few years ago, but my personal favorite is
Craftsteak in MGM. Last trip I lost about $500 after the meal on
blackjack, so the dinner was quite expensive.

Since you already have been given some great recommendations I just want to
add Binion's Ranch USED to be good like 8 years ago. Binion's Ranch is now
mediocre at best for the price, skip it.
My favorite is Circus Circus steakhouse. I feel the quality combined with
the portions you get (not ala cart) vs. the price can't be beat. I also like
the horse a round bar in the midway so that sways my choice a little |

Hi,
While I agree Delmonico's is a very good choice and if you are looking
for a casino setting this would be my choice. If you have a car and as
just looking for the absolutely best steak less than a mile off the
strip I'd choose Ruth's Chris. Check out there site at:
www.ruthschris.com
where you can see and hear the steak sizzle.
While it's part of a (high end) chain the steak is as good as meat
comes and you'll come in well under $100 p.p with drinks. If you like
martini's I'd recommend the pomegranate.

Thanks for the replies. That gives me a lot to think about and
research. I was wondering about Binion's Ranch being any good anymore
because many of the really good reviews I have come across were rather
old and they kind have gone from "excellent" to a "good meal" in the
newer posts. I guess now all I have to do is try and convince my
friend to plunk out some serious $$ on a good dinner. As far as
reservations to a place like Delmonico's- is it going to be possible
to make some reservations around noon time for dinner that night or is
it something that were going to have to plan for a day or more in
advance? Were going to be there Sun- Thurs so I am guessing the crowds
will be at a minimum early during the week. I'm sure I will have many
more questions for you guys before I head out there..

Poor service and high cost vs.quality were my main issues. When I spend
decent money on a meal I don't expect to be treated like a Jack in the Box
customer, it was not very busy when I was there or I would have understood.
The food is just ok and the view is great. I think it would be worth a 2 for
1.
I was a big fan of the place pre Becky so it's slide was very noticeable to
me. Had I never been before and the service wasn't so bad I may not be as
harsh, but I still wouldn't return |

Matt--
Many people will tell you that you absolutely MUST have reservations for
Delmonico, but in the at least five times I have eaten there, four times
have been walk-ups with just a call from our host on two ocassions. I
guess that came out as clear as mud. Yes, reservations are better.
