A letter to the editor
Dear Editor: Is our justice system broken in the United States?
I believe there is no justice, unless you can afford to buy it.
Cases in point:
O.J. Simpson killed his wife and her friend, and walked away a free man
only because he had the money to do it.
Michael Jackson sexually molested young boys in his mansion, and bought
his way out of court.
Anna Nicole Smith clearly indicated that she wanted to be buried in the
Bahamas next to her son, but she had to lie in the morgue, her body
decomposing, while two attorneys and our justice system decided if she
knew best.
Border guards Jose Compean and Ignacio Ramos were sent to prison for
shooting a Mexican drug dealer in the line of duty, because they did not
have enough money for a good defense and their employer (the U.S.
government) decided to protect the Mexican drug cartel instead of its
employees. Someone in the U.S. government is involved with the Mexican
drug cartel.
Our justice system has evolved from everyone is entitled to a speedy trial
to take out a loan to pay your attorney because it will be years and
thousands of dollars before your day in court.
Our justice system, which was pretty much created by attorneys, now allows
discovery, depositions, interrogatories, motions for summary judgment,
etc., etc.
What all of this means is thousands of dollars in cost for the defendant
(victim) and the same thousands of dollars in the pockets of the victim's
attorney.
Our justice system is designed to keep us out of court through cost.
