The El Cortez ad invited folks to come see boxer Dick Tiger in training.

Tiger held the world middleweight championship at that time, having
gained the title by defeating Gene Fullmer (a Mormon from Utah) in San
Francisco in October 1962, at the age of 33.

Tiger was in Las Vegas for a rematch against Fullmer on Feb. 23, 1963.
They fought to a 15-round draw allowing Tiger to retain the title. His
third and last fight against Fullmer came on August 10th in Tiger's
native Nigeria, where he defeated Fullmer by TKO.

Tiger relinquished the middleweight crown on December 7, 1963 in
Atlantic City, losing by decision to Joey Giardello in 15 rounds.

After several more fights, including a win over Rubin "Hurricane"
Carter, Tiger regained the middleweight title from Giardello in 1965,
only to lose it again the following year to Emile Griffith.

Tiger was named Ring Magazine "Fighter of the Year" in 1962 and 1965.

Tiger later moved up to the light-heavyweight division and became
champion by defeating Jose Torres. He successfully defended the title
in Las Vegas, defeating Roger Rouse by TKO in the 12th round.

Tiger's last fight was a loss to Emile Griffith in July 1970. Tiger
was later diagnosed with liver cancer and died in December 1971 at the
age of 42.
