I grew up in Las Vegas, was stuck there for approximately 25 years, starting
just before 1980. When my parents moved there (thus, I too went there), it
had little more than 500,000 people in it. I still remember the first hour
that we stepped foot in Nevada, within that time period (as a 7 year old
child) I heard something I had never heard before, a grown adult scream
obsinities to a 6 year old child across the room. If I had believed in
karma and if I had been old enough, I would have put on a good pair of
walking shoes and marched right back to Germany. It didn't get any better
as time went on....

Perhaps it was a culture shock of some sort, perhaps Las Vegas just had a
very harsh and brutal, yet accepted amongst itself, type of culture.
Whatever it was, the happy days I experienced in Germany were certainly at
an end, it never once got good.

Entering Elementary School, I found out that the Las Vegas students are
actually BEHIND when it comes to education. In fact, I graduated High
School in Las Vegas and I can honestly say it is quite possibly the absolute
worst school district that any World Power Nation could possibly have.
First, they attempted to hold me back a grade. Why? Was it because they
needed to re-cover some materials? Perhaps it was because I needed to go
over some new things taught in these beautiful schools. Not hardly. It was
because since I started in a foreign school, I started earlier than the
others and was in fact even ahead of the others. They wanted to hold me
back because I was the youngest in my grade. So, instead of seeing this as
a good thing and trying to advance me, they wanted to hold me back. (This
is typical of this school district, as you'll see later).

In Las Vegas, I found the students to be rather brutal, and I found that
this was accept and was in fact the norm. In fact, most probably don't
realize that there is any other way and find it quite normal. I found that
many students were actually taught by their parents to be violent and be
brutal, again another thing about the culture and its acceptance. Never in
Germany had I ever been 'Called Out' and didn't even know what it meant nor
why it was being done, when it was done.

Bored to tears, I didn't do a lot of my work and one teacher decided to 'F'
me. Perhaps it was deserved, but very rare, as the main policy of this
school district is to try and pass everyone, regardless of merit. So, with
this 'F', the counselors called me into the office and failed to advance me
to a higher level, as they omitted perhaps giving me a test to see where I
should be. I was placed in Special Education.... (morons). I was the only
honor student in Special Education (the work took NO time at all, and I
could finish it in 5 minutes flat, plus no homework). I stayed there until
someone had the bright idea to give me a test and found out that I had an
education level of 12th grade (I was in 6th grade at the time). Of course,
the first test didn't show this. Oh no, the first test I got 100% on and
they called me in to see if I had cheated on the test, then gave me a harder
test. I remember my thoughts being, if my education level is 12th grade,
then the people in 12th grade must be pretty stupid. (they were).

No, my education experience didn't end there. Eventually, I got out of the
stupid stupid schools and they just stuck me in a semi-stupid school that
had some standards. My math level was so high by the 10th grade, that they
were ready to put me in Pre-Calculus (a special note however, Pre-Calculus
is taught in many foreign nations at the Jr. High level). Want to know why
I didn't get into Pre-Calculus? Because they had so many students that
didn't know basic math, they didn't have the room to teach them. What did
they do? Send them to another school perhaps? No, they cancelled the
Pre-Calculus class and re-instituted a basic math class for the stupid
students (they had plenty of those, though they were a little less stupid
than most other students in Las Vegas).

I was so ashamed to be graduating from Stupid School District that I refused
to attend the graduation ceremonies.

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas was a little better, but be assured that
the same students that graduated high-school will be attending the freshman
years there, so be prepared if you want to start taking undergraduate
courses there. Yes, they are still as stupid, but they start getting weeded
out around the sophmore year.

How about the Las Vegas culture? How is that there? Well, it isn't much
better. Around the 80's and early 90's it was very much leaning towards a
bit of a rustic family setting, maybe a little redneck culture mixed in with
some country and ghetto. Towards the mid-90s and on, a lot of people from
Los Angeles and New York started screwing up the culture with their
extremely stupid heavy-urban beliefs, ways, and cultures. Used to be that
you could walk into a business and ask to see your friend Joe, now they
turned it into such a way that you need written permission and their social
security number before they'll even acknowledge that they may work there or
not.

Las Vegas is the culture of prostitution, smoking (lots and lots of that
there), gambling, homosexuality, fornication, lying (lots of that going on
too), mistrust, and is basically just one very big mess. People often see
these things as 'fun' without realizing the consequences for such things.
High divorce rate, Vegas is famous for both its quick marriages and its
divorces. Women are not looked down on if they cheat on their husband or
boyfriend, they are just looked at as 'having fun'.

The worst part is that it appears that Las Vegas has gained the reputation
that criminals can hide here. Seems like every time a criminal wants to
hide, he thinks Las Vegas is the place to blend in and do it. Perhaps he
feels that he can mix in with other criminals and not be as noticed.
Couldn't be much further from the truth. Most of the jobs in Vegas require
a background check of some sort, they used to call it a 'Sheriff's Card'
which was like a 'license to work' after paying for your own background
check. Not only are police rampant (and uneducated), but casinos also
employ a system of face recognition, using cameras and computers, when you
walk into a casino.

Police very often have absolutely no idea about the law. I have had on
occasion had to have an attorney call them in order to get things done. The
best way to get the police to do their job is to offer a quick way out of
doing it. I did this once when I told police I would drop the charges if
the other party would pay for damages. Before that, they kept offering me
excuses about why they shouldn't pursue an investigation. After that, they
finally called the people in for questioning. Once, I called the police
because a landlord had illegally evicted me without notice (believe it or
not, he wanted to use the extra place to run an online porn business).
Police said, "Don't tell me how to do my job" as I looked for a motel to
stay in at the last minute. Another time, they banged on the wrong door (my
door) at 2:00am in the morning, demanding I let them in without cause nor
warrant (I'm not kidding, this really happened). It was only after about an
hour of them not going away and being locked outside my security screen that
they finally told me that they were responding to a call about someone
screaming. It is often said that the LVMPD is nothing but some legalized
gang, and I certainly can vouch for that.

Las Vegas jobs cater to the uneducated. Most jobs are in the service
industry. Maids, Bartenders, Cocktail Waitresses, Valet, Bus Person, Cook,
Waitress, etc. etc. etc. Thus, a whole bunch of really stupid people go
there to find jobs, it is a stupid person magnet. A good union provides
stupid people a wage that they do not deserve, along with a lot of really
nice benefits. Get a job there however and you'll be sharing your work
environment with drug addicts and violent people with no education.

Hope this helps someone...

Good Luck With Las Vegas

You should just acknowledge you were born a loser, If I were you I think I
would drive to the top of a 8 story parking garage and jump from the top,
this would be best for everyone that knows you.

Sorry..... way way too long for me to read all this. Can you kind of sum
it up in a line or two?
