i plan on going to vegas in may (i'd like to go sooner, but definitely
in may). i've really got the travel bug so if i can swing it, i will
go sooner.
a couple of questions:
i'm taking my girlfriend ( who has never been to vegas) and i would
like a hotel that is a little nicer than average. if it was just me i
would probably choose something like MSS, but i want a little nicer
for her first trip and would like to stay in the $100/nt range (or
cheaper) also, i would like in room coffee (stayed at mirage once and
had to go to the lobby or order room svc for coffee).
also, i hear about both POV and ACG and wonder if it's worth it for a
3 or 4 night trip. i see that the ACG is a lot cheaper, but the POV
has a lot more matchplays.
i won't have a car although i am considering renting a car for a day.
i would appreciate any suggestions.
thanks,
todd

I need some details. Sun to Thurs (cheaper) stay or weekend?
Strip, downtown (MSS is fine but Golden Nugget is better and has a great
deal going), or off strip. (Great Deals off strip including Gold Coast and
Orleans.)
Use TRAVELAXE first to select your dates and see what the hotels are
charging for the dates you plan to visit. Then begin your search with them
and several others including the hotels own web sites. A lot of hotels will
also include their funbook when you check in. Always ask if they have a fun
book, regardless of the hotel.
If matchplay is important, absolutely get the LVA POV. In addition, sign up
at EVERY hotel you play at for their card. Even if you use it once, it will
be worth it. Most will give you something extra for being a new signup,
especially matchplay.
The 2008 ACG and going to www.vegasresources.com should get you started.
Welcome and have fun. Don't forget trip report.

About the matchplay coupons, seeing as how it's your girlfriend's first
visit, she might not be interested in spending her limited time in
Vegas doing a coupon run. Most of your time will be spent driving from
casino to casino, parking the car, walking to/from the garage or
parking lot. Make sure your girlfriend is willing to do that, or else
plan something for her to do on the Strip while you go solo (which she
might not appreciate either).
Otherwise, you could still rent a car for a day, but drive out to
Hoover Dam (southeast) or Red Rock canyon (west) and see some
spectacular desert scenery.

i'm planning my trip for during the week because the rates i'm seeing
are so much better.
i've never stayed at the GN or MSS. looking at the MSS website, the
rooms look really plain.
i'm wondering if a strip room like MGM Grand or NEW York New York....
if the room, hotel, location are worth the extra money, esp. for the
experience if you've never been there ?
also, i know it may seem minor, but i wonder which strip rooms have in
room coffee....
the hotels that i have been considering are NYNY, Bally's,LUXOR, and
MGM GRAND |

We check all the strip hotels, and go with whichever one has the best
deal. How much time are we in the room anyway?

Todd,
I'd skip the coupons for the Vegas Virgin trip -- and definitely stay
on the Strip if you can find a good rate. I think NYNY or MGM (which
you mention earier) would be great chioces.
You're best bet on the coffee question is to call the hotel yourself &
ask. Policies change on this and I think LV passed some rule about how
the pots must be washed a few years ago (good thing! have you seen
that video? yuck!) and many places stopped providing them. Your
choices then -- and as a committed caffien addict I can relate -- are
stocking up on chilled "coffee drinks" for the room, ordering room
service coffee or bringing your own maker. That's what I do actually.
I've got a little travel one-cup coffee maker that pretty much lives
in my suitcase. http://www.packinglight.net/plight/product.asp?pf_id=PAAAIANOPJHGCHNC&dept_id=3018&s_id=0

Amy
